Battle Ground Elementary School issued the following announcement on Mar 6.

The Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition presented its Clean Air Champion-School Fleet Award to the Tippecanoe School Corporation. The annual award recognizes companies and organizations advancing alternative fuels and technologies.

The TSC purchased its first propane-powered school bus in 2012 and now has 53 propane buses in its fleet, with six more slated for delivery.

The move has drastically reduced the use of diesel fuel. "In addition to significantly reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, the use of propane in TSC's fleet has led to a more than $200,000 in savings to the taxpayers of Tippecanoe County due to lower costs of both fuel and maintenance," says TSC Transportation Director Greg Haltom.

Each year, the Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition recognizes outstanding contributions to advancing the Coalition’s mission. Since receiving official designation from the U.S. Department of Energy as one of nearly 100 Clean Cities coalitions in the U.S., Greater Indiana’s stakeholders have worked to fulfill our mission – advancing alternative, domestic fueled transportation including energy efficient technologies across all sectors in Indiana. This is the third time the TSC has received an award from the organization.
