FOIA request sent to Purdue University regarding Chinese National students on June 16, 2025

FOIA Request to Purdue University regarding Chinese National students on June 16, 2025.

On June 16, 2025, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to Purdue University by Lafayette Times. The request seeks detailed information about Chinese National students enrolled at the university. The inquiry is made under the Indiana Access to Public Records Act and requests the information in electronic format.

The FOIA request specifically asks for several pieces of information. Firstly, it seeks documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If such details are protected, a total number of these students and their departmental distribution is requested instead.

Secondly, the request asks for documentation on scholarships received by these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. Additionally, it requests identification of any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council if not already covered in the previous item.

Furthermore, the FOIA request seeks any policies or procedures that describe how Purdue University monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.

This request is submitted on behalf of Lafayette Times and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. The coalition assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information laws. More information about this organization can be found at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
